A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO THE HAWAII PUBLIC HOUSING AUTHORITY.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 

      SECTION 1.  The Hawaii public housing authority shall establish a two-year public housing tenant workforce training pilot program to provide public housing tenants with part-time, on-the-job paid training and work to gain knowledge and experience to fulfill the minimum qualifications needed for future part-time and full-time employment.      SECTION 2.  The Hawaii public housing authority may enter into a contract with nonprofit organizations, for-profit organizations, or foundations to implement the public housing tenant upward mobility pilot program without regard to chapter 103D and 103F, Hawaii Revised Statutes.      SECTION 3.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $500,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2023-2024 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2024-2025 for the implementation of the public housing tenant upward mobility pilot program, including all program costs.      The sums appropriated shall be expended by the Hawaii public housing authority for the purposes of this Act.      SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
