4343 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

4747 SECTION 1. Section 464-13, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsections (a) and (b) to read as follows: "(a) The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to work in respect to any [privately]: (1) Privately owned or privately controlled one-storied building, dwelling, or structure, for which the [estimated cost of which] floor area of work does not exceed [$40,000, nor to any privately] 1,200 square feet; or (2) Privately controlled two-storied building, dwelling, or structure, for which the [estimated cost of which] floor area of work does not exceed [$35,000.] 1,000 square feet. However, no structure, dwelling, or building in which the principal structural members consist of reinforced concrete or structural steel having riveted, bolted, or welded connections shall be exempted from this chapter. (b) The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to work in respect to any privately owned or privately controlled [one-storied]: (1) One-storied structure[, which] that is used primarily as a residence, for which the [estimated cost of which] floor area of work does not exceed [$50,000, nor to any privately owned or privately controlled] 1,500 square feet; (2) Two-storied structure[, which] that is used primarily as a residence, for which the [cost of which] floor area of work does not exceed [$45,000.] 1,350 square feet; or (3) One- or two-storied structure that is used primarily as a residence stamped with the seal of a licensed engineer who has qualified in the civil engineering branch." SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored. SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
