4343 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

4747 SECTION 1. Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part II, subpart C, to be appropriately designated and to read as follows: "§302A- Participation in athletic activities by home‑schooled children. (a) A child who is home-schooled in accordance with section 302A-1132(a)(5) shall be eligible to be a member of a sports team of the public school that the child would otherwise be required to attend in the same manner as a student at that same school. (b) Each home-schooled child who is a member of a sports team of a public school shall meet the participation requirements and restrictions for that team, including maintaining an appropriate grade point average and paying appropriate fees; provided that the requirements or restrictions shall not be inconsistent with this section. (c) The department shall adopt rules to effectuate this section and to provide procedures by which a home-schooled child may apply to become a member of a sports team." SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored. SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval. INTRODUCED BY: _____________________________
