4545 WHEREAS, the nationally recognized Journalism Education Association is celebrating one hundred years of supporting student journalists and advisers in Hawaii and nationwide since its founding in 1924; and WHEREAS, the Journalism Education Association supports free and responsible scholastic journalism by providing resources and educational opportunities, promoting professionalism, encouraging and rewarding student excellence and teacher achievement, and fostering an atmosphere that encompasses diversity and builds unity; and WHEREAS, the Journalism Education Association's advisers and student journalists in Hawaii actively support and honor the First Amendment in their student publications; and WHEREAS, February 19 through February 23, 2024, has been designated as Scholastic Journalism Week throughout the country to celebrate the Journalism Education Association as well as its advisers, student journalists, and publication programs; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2024, the Senate concurring, that this body recognizes February 19 through February 23, 2024, as scholastic journalism week in Hawaii; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this body further recognizes the Journalism Education Association's Centennial Celebration; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the President of the Journalism Education Association and Director of the Hawaii Journalism Education Association.
