HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES H.R. NO. 44 THIRTY-SECOND LEGISLATURE, 2024 STATE OF HAWAII HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES H.R. NO. 44 THIRTY-SECOND LEGISLATURE, 2024 STATE OF HAWAII HOUSE RESOLUTION encouraging the state, public utilities commission, and hawaiian electric company to make all future solar projects in the state community solar projects. WHEREAS, as a clean energy source, solar power helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change; and WHEREAS, however, according to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, approximately fifty percent of households and businesses are unable to have solar arrays installed on their respective rooftops; and WHEREAS, community solar projects are solar projects in which households and businesses subscribe to or own a portion of the energy generated by a typically offsite solar array and receive an electric bill credit for the share of the solar energy generated by the household or business project; and WHEREAS, community solar projects expand access to solar power to households and businesses that are unable to host onsite solar arrays, and help to provide these households and businesses with reduced monthly electric bills and increased resilience during blackouts and weather events; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2024, that the State, Public Utilities Commission, and Hawaiian Electric Company are encouraged to make all future solar projects in the State community solar projects; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, Chairperson of the Public Utilities Commission, and President and Chief Executive Officer of the Hawaiian Electric Company.
