A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HAWAIIAN HOMELANDS.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that, under section 207 of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1920, as amended, the department of Hawaiian home lands is authorized to grant licenses for mercantile establishments owned by native Hawaiians, such as theaters, markets, or stores, and other improvements for public purposes. The legislature recognizes that the development of mercantile establishments presents an opportunity for economic growth by promoting entrepreneurship, creating more jobs, and boosting local economies. The purpose of this Act is to appropriate moneys to be used by the department of Hawaiian home lands for mercantile projects, as well as lump sum repair and maintenance, in fiscal year 2025-2026.
