HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES H.R. NO. 73 THIRTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE, 2025 STATE OF HAWAII HOUSE RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE ATTORNEY GENERAL TO DEVELOP AND RECOMMEND A PROCESS BY WHICH GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS' SALARIES SHALL BE DETERMINED BY VOTERS. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES H.R. NO. 73 THIRTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE, 2025 STATE OF HAWAII HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES H.R. NO. 73 THIRTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE, 2025 STATE OF HAWAII HOUSE RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE ATTORNEY GENERAL TO DEVELOP AND RECOMMEND A PROCESS BY WHICH GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS' SALARIES SHALL BE DETERMINED BY VOTERS. WHEREAS, the United States of America and its individual states are designed to serve the people; and WHEREAS, by extension, government officials are servants of the people; and WHEREAS, government officials should be compensated for their work, but not in a manner that imposes an undue financial burden on taxpayers; and WHEREAS, to ensure that government officials are compensated in a manner that is consistent with the will of governed constituents, the governed constituents should have a direct say in the compensation of those officials; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2025, that the Attorney General is requested to develop and recommend a process by which government officials' salaries shall be determined by voters; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2026, the Attorney General is requested to submit to the Legislature a report of the Attorney General's recommendations, including any proposed legislation; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Attorney General and Chief Election Officer.
