27-REQUESTING THE CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU TO LIGHT UP CITY HALL WITH PURPLE LIGHTS ON AUGUST 7, 2025, IN HONOR OF NATIONAL PURPLE HEART DAY.

29-WHEREAS, the Purple Heart is one of the most recognized, respected, and oldest military decorations awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces; and WHEREAS, the Purple Heart is awarded to service members who have been injured or killed in military service to the United States; and WHEREAS, the act of sustaining a wound or sacrificing one's life in the line of military duty has been recognized as a singularly meritorious act of extraordinary fidelity service, warranting receipt of the Purple Heart; and WHEREAS, meritorious acts of extraordinary fidelity service are the foundation of many of the modern freedoms enjoyed by the people of the United States; and WHEREAS, the Legislature finds it proper for the State to specifically honor the sacrifices of service members who have received the Purple Heart; and WHEREAS, August 7 is recognized as National Purple Heart Day; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2025, the House of Representatives concurring, that the City and County of Honolulu is requested to light up City Hall with purple lights on August 7, 2025, in honor of National Purple Heart Day; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu.
