SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the hawaii emergency management agency to collaborate with relevant agencies to develop initiatives and outreach programs to inform kupuna about emergency preparedness.

 

 

      WHEREAS, the State is increasingly prone to a variety of natural disasters, including hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions, which can severely impact the safety and public health of the State's residents; and        WHEREAS, the State's elderly population is particularly vulnerable in emergencies due to physical limitations, chronic health conditions, and lack of access to communication technology resources; and        WHEREAS, individuals aged sixty-five and older represent a significant segment of the State's population, making up over nineteen percent of the State's total population, and is expected to increase; and        WHEREAS, ensuring that older adults are well-informed about emergency preparedness can significantly improve their chances of survival and reduce the strain on emergency services; and        WHEREAS, educational efforts and community outreach programs are essential to providing the State's elderly with the knowledge and resources needed to protect themselves during emergencies; now, therefore,        BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2025, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency is requested to collaborate with relevant agencies, including but not limited to the Department of Emergency Management of the City and County of Honolulu, Civil Defense Agency of the County of Hawaii, Emergency Management Agency of the County of Maui, and Emergency Management Agency of the County of Kauai to develop initiatives and outreach programs to inform kupuna about emergency preparedness; and        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Director of the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, Acting Director of the Department of Emergency Management of the City and County of Honolulu, Administrator of the Civil Defense Agency of the County of Hawaii, Administrator of the Emergency Management Agency of the County of Maui, and Administrator of the Emergency Management Agency of the County of Kauai.
