SENATE RESOLUTION

 

 

Urging the mayor of the city and county of honolulu, HONOLULU police department, and HONOLULU prosecuting attorney's office to collaborate with local businesses and community PARTNERS TO IMPLEMENT SAFE AND SOUND PROGRAMS IN EWA BEACH, KAPOLEI, AND WAIANAE. 

 

 

      WHEREAS, since its implementation in 2022, Waikiki's Safe and Sound program has proven effective at reducing crime in the Waikiki area; and        WHEREAS, the program has been a collaborative effort between the Mayor's Office, Honolulu Police Department, Honolulu Prosecuting Attorney's Office, local businesses, and community partners; and        WHEREAS, since the start of the program, Waikiki has experienced approximately forty-eight percent fewer drug and alcohol-related crimes, nineteen percent fewer robberies, thirty percent fewer burglaries, and twenty-two percent fewer incidents of criminal property damage; and        WHEREAS, to prevent and address crime in West Oahu, areas including Ewa Beach, Kapolei, and Waianae, would also benefit from implementing similar Safe and Sound programs; now, therefore,        BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2025, that the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, Honolulu Police Department, and Honolulu Prosecuting Attorney's Office are urged to collaborate with local businesses and community partners to implement Safe and Sound programs in Ewa Beach, Kapolei, and Waianae; and        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, Chief of Police for the Honolulu Police Department, Honolulu Prosecuting Attorney, and Honolulu City Council Members representing districts I and IV.
