SENATE RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the department of education and department of health to update vaccination FORMS AND recordkeeping for public school and charter school students.

 

 

      WHEREAS, existing law requires students enrolled in public and charter schools to be vaccinated against certain diseases; and        WHEREAS, the list of mandatory vaccinations are periodically amended to include additional vaccination requirements; and        WHEREAS, in some situations, parents may have permitted their children to obtain a majority of the mandatory vaccines, but refused a certain vaccination, such as HPV; and        WHEREAS, Department of Education enrollment coordinators are required to complete certain forms if a student claims a vaccination exemption; and        WHEREAS, if a student claims an exemption for one type of vaccine, enrollment coordinators designate the student as unvaccinated, regardless of vaccination status for other vaccines; and        WHEREAS, to determine whether herd immunity can be achieved within educational environments during a disease outbreak, a more accurate assessment of, students vaccination statuses is necessary to empower the Department of Education to take a proactive approach to the health and well-being of students; now, therefore,        BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2025, that the Department of Education and Department of Health are requested to update vaccination forms and recordkeeping for public school and charter school students; and        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Superintendent of Education and Director of Health.
