H.F. 2465 Section 1. Section 256.11, subsection 5, paragraph a and e, 1 Code 2024, are amended to read as follows: 2 a. Five units of science including . 3 (1) The five units of science shall include physics and 4 chemistry ; the units of physics and chemistry , which may be 5 taught in alternate years. 6 (2) The five units of science may include not more than 7 two units of instruction related to agriculture, which may be 8 offered and taught through dedicated units of coursework or 9 through units of coursework that also meet the requirements of 10 the coursework required under paragraph h , subparagraph (1), 11 subparagraph division (a). The state board shall adopt rules 12 pursuant to chapter 17A to implement this subparagraph. 13 e. Two additional units of mathematics. The two additional 14 units of mathematics may include instruction related to applied 15 sciences, technology, engineering, or manufacturing, including 16 transportation, distribution, logistics, architecture, and 17 construction, which may be offered and taught through dedicated 18 units of coursework or through units of coursework that 19 also meet the requirements of the coursework required under 20 paragraph h , subparagraph (1), subparagraph division (c). 21 The state board shall adopt rules pursuant to chapter 17A to 22 implement this paragraph. 23 Sec. 2. Section 256E.7, subsection 2, paragraph g, Code 24 2024, is amended to read as follows: 25 g. Be subject to and comply with the requirements of 26 section 256.7, subsection 21 , and the educational standards of 27 section 256.11 , unless specifically waived by the state board 28 during the application process ; provided, however, that the 29 state board shall not waive any of the following educational 30 standards: 31 (1) The educational standards established in section 32 256.11, subsection 5, paragraph a , related to the use of 33 instruction related to agriculture to fulfill a portion of the 34 unit requirements related to science . 35 -1- HF 2465 (3) 90 jda/jh/md 1/ 2
H.F. 2465 (2) The educational standards established in section 1 256.11, subsection 5, paragraph e , related to the use 2 of instruction related to applied sciences, technology, 3 engineering, or manufacturing to fulfill a portion of the unit 4 requirements related to mathematics. 5 Sec. 3. Section 256F.4, subsection 2, Code 2024, is amended 6 by adding the following new paragraphs: 7 NEW PARAGRAPH . p. Be subject to and comply with the 8 requirements of section 256.11, subsection 5, paragraph a , 9 relating to the use of instruction related to agriculture to 10 fulfill a portion of the unit requirements related to science 11 in the same manner as a school district. 12 NEW PARAGRAPH . q. Be subject to and comply with the 13 requirements of section 256.11, subsection 5, paragraph e , 14 relating to the use of instruction related to applied sciences, 15 technology, engineering, or manufacturing to fulfill a portion 16 of the unit requirements related to mathematics in the same 17 manner as a school district. 18 -2- HF 2465 (3) 90 jda/jh/md 2/ 2
