1-Senate File 329 - Enrolled Senate File 329 AN ACT RELATING TO LEAVES OF ABSENCES FOR CIVIL EMPLOYEES PERFORMING STATE ACTIVE DUTY, NATIONAL GUARD DUTY, FEDERAL ACTIVE DUTY, CIVIL AIR PATROL DUTY, OR NATIONAL DISASTER MEDICAL SYSTEM DUTY. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: Section 1. Section 29A.28, subsection 1, paragraph b, Code 2023, is amended to read as follows: b. Where state active duty, national guard duty, federal active duty, or civil air patrol duty is for a period of less than thirty days, a leave of absence under this section shall only be required for those days that the civil employee would normally perform services for the state, subdivision of the state, or a municipality. The provisions of this section shall also apply to a leave of absence by a member of the national disaster medical system of the United States when activated for federal service with the system. If the workday for a civil employee encompasses more than one calendar day a continuous period of up to twenty-four consecutive hours, regardless of whether the workday extends into one or two calendar days , the civil employee shall only be required to take a leave of

If the workday for a civil 11 employee encompasses more than one calendar day a continuous 12 period of up to twenty-four consecutive hours, regardless of 13 whether the workday extends into one or two calendar days , 14 the civil employee shall only be required to take a leave of 15 absence for one day for that workday if a leave of absence is 16 required under this paragraph. 17 EXPLANATION 18 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 19 the explanations substance by the members of the general assembly. 20 This bill allows a civil employee of the state to only take 21 one day of required leave if the civil employee is absent due 22 to state active duty, national guard duty, federal active duty, 23 civil air patrol duty, or national disaster medical system 24 duty, the employee is absent for a period of less than 30 days, 25 and the workday for the employee encompasses a continuous 26 period of up to 24 consecutive hours, regardless of whether 27 the workday extends into one or two calendar days.
