| 3 | + | H.F. 471 Section 1. Section 280.13C, subsection 2, paragraph e, Code 1 2025, is amended to read as follows: 2 e. Licensed health care provider means a physician, 3 physician assistant, chiropractor, advanced registered nurse 4 practitioner, nurse, person who holds a doctorate in psychology 5 with specialty training in neuropsychology or concussion 6 management, physical therapist, occupational therapist, or 7 athletic trainer licensed by a board designated under section 8 147.13 . 9 EXPLANATION 10 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 11 the explanations substance by the members of the general assembly. 12 This bill modifies provisions related to school concussion 13 and brain injury policies. 14 Current Code section 280.13C requires the department of 15 health and human services, the Iowa high school athletic 16 association, and the Iowa girls high school athletic union 17 to work together to develop training materials and courses 18 regarding concussions and brain injuries, to distribute 19 information related to concussions and brain injuries, and 20 to develop protocols related to when a student may return to 21 participation in an extracurricular interscholastic activity 22 after showing signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent with 23 a concussion or brain injury. Current Code section 280.13C 24 also establishes standards related to when a student, at the 25 direction of a licensed health care provider, among others, 26 should be removed from participation in an extracurricular 27 interscholastic activity due to signs, symptoms, or behaviors 28 consistent with a concussion or brain injury, as well as 29 when the student may return following removal.
