  S.F. 332   Section 1. Section 282.18, subsection 10, paragraph b, 1   subparagraph (1), Code 2025, is amended to read as follows: 2   (1) A receiving district with a total enrollment of less 3   than two thousand students may send school vehicles not more   4   than two miles   into the district of residence of the pupil 5   using the open enrollment option under this section , for the 6   purpose of transporting the pupil to and from school in the 7   receiving district, if the pupils primary residence is closer 8   to the attendance center the pupil attends in the receiving 9   district than the residence is to the attendance center the 10   pupil would be assigned in the sending district. 11   Sec. 2. Section 282.18, subsection 10, paragraph b, 12   subparagraph (2), unnumbered paragraph 1, Code 2025, is amended 13   to read as follows: 14   Notwithstanding subparagraph (1), a receiving district with 15   a total enrollment of greater than or equal to two thousand 16   students may send school vehicles two miles or more   into the 17   district of residence of the pupil using the open enrollment 18   option under this section , for the purpose of transporting the 19   pupil to and from school in the receiving district, regardless 20   of the distance between the pupils primary residence and the 21   attendance center the pupil attends in the receiving district 22   or the attendance center the pupil would be assigned in the 23   sending district, if all of the following apply: 24   EXPLANATION 25   The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 26   the explanations substance by the members of the general assembly. 27   This bill relates to the transportation to and from school of 28   pupils participating in open enrollment. 29   Current law provides that a receiving district with a total 30   enrollment of less than 2,000 students may send school vehicles 31   not more than two miles into the district of residence of the   32   pupil who open enrolls, for the purpose of transporting the 33   pupil to and from school in the receiving district, if the 34   pupils primary residence is closer to the attendance center 35   -1-   LSB 2715XS (2) 91   jda/jh   1/ 2

The bill modifies this provision to allow a 3   receiving district with a total enrollment of less than 2,000 4   students to send school vehicles into the district of residence 5   of the pupil who open enrolls, for the purpose of transporting 6   the pupil to and from school in the receiving district, if the 7   pupils primary residence is closer to the attendance center 8   the pupil attends in the receiving district than the residence 9   is to the attendance center the pupil would be assigned in the 10   sending district, without any restrictions related to mileage. 11   Current law also provides that a receiving district with a 12   total enrollment of at least 2,000 students may send school 13   vehicles two miles or more into the district of residence of 14   the pupil who open enrolls, regardless of the distance between 15   the pupils primary residence and the attendance center the 16   pupil attends in the receiving district or the attendance 17   center the pupil would be assigned in the sending district, if 18   certain specified requirements are satisfied. The bill strikes 19   the two-mile provision. The bill modifies this provision to 20   provide that a receiving district with a total enrollment of 21   at least 2,000 students may send school vehicles into the 22   district of residence of the pupil who open enrolls, regardless 23   of the distance between the pupils primary residence and 24   the attendance center the pupil attends in the receiving 25   district or the attendance center the pupil would be assigned 26   in the sending district, if certain specified requirements are 27   satisfied, without any restrictions related to mileage. 28   -2-   LSB 2715XS (2) 91   jda/jh   2/ 2
