1414 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
1515 3 represented in the General Assembly:
1616 4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
1717 5 27-23.17 as follows:
1818 6 (105 ILCS 5/27-23.17 new)
1919 7 Sec. 27-23.17. Books about racism; required reading.
2020 8 (a) Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, every public
2121 9 elementary and secondary school shall include as required
2222 10 reading in its appropriate grade-level curriculum the
2323 11 following books about racism:
2424 12 (1) Nonfiction books:
2525 13 (A) "Ain't I a Woman: Black Women and Feminism" by
