1111 1 AN ACT concerning State government.
1212 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
1313 3 represented in the General Assembly:
1414 4 Section 5. The Governor Succession Act is amended by
1515 5 changing Section 1 as follows:
1616 6 (15 ILCS 5/1) (from Ch. 127, par. 63b122)
1717 7 Sec. 1. (a) In the the event that the Governor, for any of
1818 8 the reasons specified in Article V, Section 6 of the
1919 9 Constitution of the State of Illinois, is not able to exercise
2020 10 the powers and discharge the duties of his office, such powers
2121 11 and duties of the office shall be exercised by the officer next
2222 12 in line of succession, in the order named as follows:
2323 13 (1) The Lieutenant Governor;
2424 14 (2) The elected Attorney General;
2525 15 (3) The elected Secretary of State;
2626 16 (4) The elected Comptroller;
2727 17 (5) The elected Treasurer;
2828 18 (6) The President of the Senate;
2929 19 (7) The Speaker of the House of Representatives.
3030 20 (b) The officer next in line of succession shall serve as
3131 21 Governor for the remainder of the term if he succeeds to the
3232 22 office by reason of death, conviction on impeachment or
3333 23 resignation of the Governor. If he succeeds to the office by

6868 1 reason of temporary disability or failure to qualify by the
6969 2 Governor, he shall serve until the Governor qualifies or the
7070 3 disability is removed. An officer who succeeds to the office
7171 4 of Governor by reason of temporary disability of the Governor
7272 5 shall be designated Acting Governor.
7373 6 (c) If an officer next in line of succession shall fail to
7474 7 qualify or if his office is vacant, then the officer next in
7575 8 line of succession after him who is qualified shall serve as
7676 9 Governor.
