11	11	1 AN ACT concerning civil law.
12	12	2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
13	13	3 represented in the General Assembly:
14	14	4 Section 5. The Code of Civil Procedure is amended by
15	15	5 changing Section 9-121 as follows:
16	16	6 (735 ILCS 5/9-121)
17	17	7 Sec. 9-121. Sealing of court file.
18	18	8 (a) Definition. As used in this Section, "court file"
19	19	9 means the the court file created when an eviction action is
20	20	10 filed with the court.
21	21	11 (b) Discretionary sealing of court file. The court may
22	22	12 order that a court file in an eviction action be placed under
23	23	13 seal if the court finds that the plaintiff's action is
24	24	14 sufficiently without a basis in fact or law, which may include
25	25	15 a lack of jurisdiction, that placing the court file under seal
26	26	16 is clearly in the interests of justice, and that those
27	27	17 interests are not outweighed by the public's interest in
28	28	18 knowing about the record.
29	29	19 (c) Mandatory sealing of court file. The court file
30	30	20 relating to an eviction action brought against a tenant under
31	31	21 Section 9-207.5 of this Code or as set forth in subdivision
32	32	22 (h)(6) of Section 15-1701 of this Code shall be placed under
33	33	23 seal.
