11	11	1 AN ACT concerning education.
12	12	2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
13	13	3 represented in the General Assembly:
14	14	4 Section 5. The Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness Act
15	15	5 is amended by changing Section 15 as follows:
16	16	6 (110 ILCS 148/15)
17	17	7 Sec. 15. Postsecondary and career expectations.
18	18	8 (a) By no later than July 1, 2017, ISBE, ICCB, IBHE, and
19	19	9 ISAC, in consultation with appropriate stakeholders, shall
20	20	10 jointly adopt and publicize model postsecondary and career
21	21	11 expectations for public school students in grades 8 through
22	22	12 12. The model postsecondary and career expectations shall
23	23	13 define activities that school districts, parents, and
24	24	14 community-based organizations should support students in
25	25	15 completing and related knowledge students should possess by no
26	26	16 later than the end of each grade level. The model
27	27	17 postsecondary and career expectations must address the
28	28	18 following categories:
29	29	19 (1) career exploration and development;
30	30	20 (2) postsecondary institution exploration,
31	31	21 preparation, and selection; and
32	32	22 (3) financial aid and financial literacy.

68	68	1 consultation with appropriate stakeholders, shall jointly
69	69	2 adopt and publicize an update to the model postsecondary and
70	70	3 career expectations that extends the expectations to grade 6
71	71	4 and includes such other revisions and updates as the agencies
72	72	5 deem appropriate.
73	73	6 (c) By July 1, 2024, ISBE shall consult with a statewide
74	74	7 organization representing businesses and manufacturing. After
75	75	8 consultation, ISBE shall publish and maintain on its website a
76	76	9 current database, organized by region, of employer champions
77	77	10 for work-based learning and career readiness systems and
78	78	11 programs. Each employer must consent to its designation as a
79	79	12 champion and its information being published in the database.
80	80	13 In addition, ISBE shall publish and maintain on its website an
81	81	14 inventory of resources available to support school districts
82	82	15 in implementing College and Career Pathway Endorsements,
83	83	16 including sector-specific resources.
84	84	17 (d) Beginning in grade 6, students should be introduced to
85	85	18 the importance of developing and applying a work ethic in a
86	86	19 variety of contexts. This introduction may include such
87	87	20 concepts and behaviors as professionalism, including, but not
88	88	21 limited to, the importance of trustworthiness, integrity,
89	89	22 initiative, and respecting authority; arriving on time and
90	90	23 ready for work; and dressing appropriately for the nature and
91	91	24 substance of the work.
