                            103RD GENERAL ASSEMBLY State of Illinois 2023 and 2024 HB2525 Introduced , by Rep. Jenn Ladisch Douglass SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:  20 ILCS 2705/2705-617 new  Amends the Department of Transportation Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that by no later than January 1, 2028, the Department shall install direct current electric vehicle charging stations at each rest stop along each interstate highway in this State. Provides that, subject to approval by the United States Secretary of Transportation, the Department may charge an electric vehicle charging fee in an amount no greater than what is necessary to offset the cost to the State in constructing and maintaining the charging infrastructure and procuring electricity. 1  AN ACT concerning State government.
2  Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3  represented in the General Assembly:
4  Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
5  Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding
6  Section 2705-617 as follows:
7  (20 ILCS 2705/2705-617 new)
8  Sec. 2705-617. Direct current charging at rest stops. By
9  no later than January 1, 2028, the Department shall install
10  direct current electric vehicle charging stations at each rest
11  stop along each interstate highway in this State. Subject to
12  approval by the United States Secretary of Transportation, the
13  Department may charge an electric vehicle charging fee in an
14  amount no greater than what is necessary to offset the cost to
15  the State in constructing and maintaining the charging
16  infrastructure and procuring electricity.
