11	11	1 AN ACT concerning elections.
12	12	2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
13	13	3 represented in the General Assembly:
14	14	4 Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing
15	15	5 Section 19A-15 as follows:

17	17	7 Sec. 19A-15. Period for early voting; hours.
18	18	8 (a) Except as otherwise provided in this Code, the period
19	19	9 for early voting by personal appearance begins the 40th day
20	20	10 preceding a general primary, consolidated primary,
21	21	11 consolidated, or general election and extends through the end
22	22	12 of the day of the Friday immediately preceding before election
23	23	13 day.
24	24	14 (b) Except as otherwise provided by this Section, a
25	25	15 permanent polling place for early voting must remain open
26	26	16 beginning the 15th day before an election through the end of
27	27	17 the day of the Friday immediately preceding before election
28	28	18 day during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or 9:00 a.m. to
29	29	19 5:00 p.m., on weekdays, except that beginning 8 days before
30	30	20 election day, a permanent polling place for early voting must
31	31	21 remain open during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., or 9:00
32	32	22 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays and

68	68	1 addition to the hours required by this subsection, a permanent
69	69	2 polling place designated by an election authority under
70	70	3 subsections (c), (d), and (e) of Section 19A-10 must remain
71	71	4 open for a total of at least 8 hours on any holiday during the
72	72	5 early voting period and a total of at least 14 hours on the
73	73	6 final weekend during the early voting period.
74	74	7 (c) Notwithstanding subsection (b), an election authority
75	75	8 may close an early voting polling place if the building in
76	76	9 which the polling place is located has been closed by the State
77	77	10 or unit of local government in response to a severe weather
78	78	11 emergency or other force majeure. The election authority shall
79	79	12 notify the State Board of Elections of any closure and shall
80	80	13 make reasonable efforts to provide notice to the public of an
81	81	14 alternative location for early voting.
