311 1 AN ACT concerning business.
412 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
513 3 represented in the General Assembly:
614 4 Section 5. The Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business
715 5 Practices Act is amended by adding Section 2BBBB as follows:
816 6 (815 ILCS 505/2BBBB new)
917 7 Sec. 2BBBB. Internet domain name; grace period.
1018 8 (a) As used in this Section, "Internet domain name" refers
1119 9 to a globally unique, hierarchical reference to an Internet
1220 10 host or service, assigned through centralized Internet naming
1321 11 authorities, comprising a series of character strings
1422 12 separated by periods, with the right-most string specifying
1523 13 the top of the hierarchy.
1624 14 (b) A person who hosts or registers an Internet domain
1725 15 name to a person located in this State shall not sell or lease
1826 16 the Internet domain name to another person for a period of 5
1927 17 years after the buyer or lessee ends his or her ownership or
2028 18 lease of the Internet domain name. A buyer or lessee who ends
2129 19 his or her ownership or lease agreement shall have the right to
2230 20 repurchase or renew the lease for the Internet domain name
2331 21 during the 5-year period for the cost the buyer or lessee would
2432 22 have owed to the host or registrar if the ownership or lease
2533 23 agreement had not ended.
