1  AN ACT concerning State government.
2  Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3  represented in the General Assembly:
4  Section 5. The Law Enforcement and Fire Fighting Medal of
5  Honor Act is amended by changing Section 2001 as follows:
6  (20 ILCS 3985/2001) (from Ch. 127, par. 3852-1)
7  Sec. 2001.  There is created the Law Enforcement Medal of
8  Honor Committee, referred to in this Article as the Committee.
9  The Committee shall consist of the Director of the Illinois
10  State Police, who shall serve as chair, the Superintendent of
11  the Chicago Police Department, the Executive Director of the
12  Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board, and the
13  following persons appointed by the Governor: a sheriff, a
14  chief of police from other than Chicago, a representative of a
15  statewide law enforcement officer organization and a retired
16  Illinois law enforcement officer. Of the appointed members,
17  the sheriff and police chief shall each serve a 2-year term and
18  the organization representative and retired officer shall each
19  serve a one-year term.  The Governor shall appoint initial
20  members within 3 months of the effective date of this Act.
21  Notwithstanding any provision in this Section to the contrary,
22  the term of office of each Committee member is abolished on
23  October 1, 2023. The terms of the Committee members appointed

1  on or after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the
2  103rd General Assembly shall be as follows: one of the members
3  shall be appointed for a term of one year, one member shall be
4  appointed for a term of 2 years, and 2 members shall be
5  appointed for terms of 3 years. Thereafter, the Committee
6  members shall hold office for 4 years. The Governor shall
7  appoint these members within 3 months of the effective date of
8  this amendatory Act of the 103rd General Assembly.
9  Members of the Committee shall serve without compensation
10  but shall be reimbursed for actual expenses incurred in the
11  performance of their duties from funds appropriated to the
12  Office of the Governor for such purpose. The Illinois State
13  Police shall provide administrative support to the Committee.
