4-AN ACT concerning State government.
5-Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
6-represented in the General Assembly:
7-Section 5. The Law Enforcement and Fire Fighting Medal of
8-Honor Act is amended by changing Section 2001 as follows:
9-(20 ILCS 3985/2001) (from Ch. 127, par. 3852-1)
10-Sec. 2001. There is created the Law Enforcement Medal of
11-Honor Committee, referred to in this Article as the Committee.
12-The Committee shall consist of the Director of the Illinois
13-State Police, who shall serve as chair, the Superintendent of
14-the Chicago Police Department, the Executive Director of the
15-Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board, and the
16-following persons appointed by the Governor: a sheriff, a
17-chief of police from other than Chicago, a representative of a
18-statewide law enforcement officer organization and a retired
19-Illinois law enforcement officer. Of the appointed members,
20-the sheriff and police chief shall each serve a 2-year term and
21-the organization representative and retired officer shall each
22-serve a one-year term. The Governor shall appoint initial
23-members within 3 months of the effective date of this Act.
24-Notwithstanding any provision in this Section to the contrary,
25-the term of office of each Committee member is abolished on
26-October 1, 2023. The terms of the Committee members appointed

35-shall be appointed for a term of one year, one member shall be
36-appointed for a term of 2 years, and 2 members shall be
37-appointed for terms of 3 years. Thereafter, the Committee
38-members shall hold office for 4 years. The Governor shall
39-appoint these members within 3 months of the effective date of
40-this amendatory Act of the 103rd General Assembly.
41-Members of the Committee shall serve without compensation
42-but shall be reimbursed for actual expenses incurred in the
43-performance of their duties from funds appropriated to the
44-Office of the Governor for such purpose. The Illinois State
45-Police shall provide administrative support to the Committee.
