1  AN ACT concerning transportation.
2  Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3  represented in the General Assembly:
4  Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
5  changing Sections 3-606.1 and 3-610.1 as follows:
6  (625 ILCS 5/3-606.1) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-606.1)
7  Sec. 3-606.1. Retired members of the General Assembly.
8  Upon receipt of a request from a retired member of the General
9  Assembly, accompanied by the appropriate application and fee,
10  the Secretary of State shall issue to such retired member
11  plates bearing appropriate wording or abbreviations indicating
12  that the holder is a retired member of the General Assembly.
13  Such plates may be issued for a 2 year period beginning January
14  1st of each odd-numbered year and ending December 31st of the
15  subsequent even-numbered year. Upon the death of a retired
16  member who has been issued a retired member of the General
17  Assembly plate, that member's surviving spouse shall be
18  entitled to retain the plate so long as the surviving spouse is
19  a resident of Illinois and transfers the registration to his
20  or her name within 90 days of the death of the retired member.
21  Except as otherwise provided, a retired member of the
22  General Assembly who has a disability as defined under Section
23  1-159.1 may request 2 identical sets of specialized plates

1  which displays the International Symbol of Access and shall be
2  subject to the provisions within Section 3-616.
3  "Retired member" means any individual who (a) has served
4  as a member of the General Assembly for a minimum of 6 years,
5  or (b) is 62 or older, has served as a member of the General
6  Assembly for a minimum of 4 years, and retired prior to the
7  convening of the 83rd General Assembly.
8  The fees and procedures relating to such plates for
9  retired members of the General Assembly shall be the same as
10  the fees and procedures applicable to personalized plates
11  issued under this Code.

14  Sec. 3-610.1. Retired members of the Illinois
15  congressional delegation.  Upon receipt of a request from a
16  retired member of the Illinois congressional delegation,
17  accompanied by the appropriate application and fee, the
18  Secretary of State shall issue to the retired member special
19  registration plates bearing appropriate wording or
20  abbreviations indicating that the holder is a retired member
21  of the Illinois congressional delegation. The plates may be
22  issued for a 2 year period beginning January 1st of each
23  odd-numbered year and ending December 31st of the subsequent
24  even-numbered year.

1  issuance in addition to the applicable registration fee. This
2  additional fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State
3  Special License Plate Fund. For each registration renewal
4  period, a $2 fee, in addition to the appropriate registration
5  fee, shall be charged and shall be deposited into the Retired
6  Members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation Fund.
7  Except as otherwise provided, a retired member of the
8  Illinois Congressional delegation who has a disability as
9  defined under Section 1-159.1 may request 2 identical sets of
10  specialized plates which displays the International Symbol of
11  Access and shall be subject to the provisions within Section
12  3-616.
13  "Retired member of the Illinois congressional delegation"
14  means any individual who has served as a member of the U.S.
15  Senate or U.S. House of Representatives representing the State
16  of Illinois. The term does not include an individual who is
17  serving in the U.S. Senate or U.S. House of Representatives.
