1212 1 AN ACT concerning elections.
1313 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
1414 3 represented in the General Assembly:
1515 4 Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing
1616 5 Sections 4-14.1 and 5-9.1 as follows:
1717 6 (10 ILCS 5/4-14.1) (from Ch. 46, par. 4-14.1)
1818 7 Sec. 4-14.1. Cancelation of deceased voter's registration.
1919 8 Upon establishment of an electronic reporting system for death
2020 9 registrations as provided in the Vital Records Act, the county
2121 10 clerk of the county where a decedent last resided, as
2222 11 indicated on the decedent's death certificate, shall may issue
2323 12 certifications of death records from that system and shall may
2424 13 use that system to cancel the registration of any person who
2525 14 has died during the preceding month. Regardless of whether or
2626 15 not such a system has been established, it is the duty of the
2727 16 county clerk to examine, monthly, the records deposited in his
2828 17 or her office pursuant to the Vital Records Act that relate to
2929 18 deaths in the county, and to cancel the registration of any
3030 19 person who has died during the preceding month.

7070 1 Upon establishment of an electronic reporting system for death
7171 2 registrations as provided in the Vital Records Act, the county
7272 3 clerk of the county where a decedent last resided, as
7373 4 indicated on the decedent's death certificate, shall may issue
7474 5 certifications of death records from that system and shall may
7575 6 use that system to cancel the registration of any person who
7676 7 has died during the preceding month and cause the name of each
7777 8 such deceased person to be erased from the register of the
7878 9 precinct in which the deceased person was registered.
7979 10 Regardless of whether or not such a system has been
8080 11 established, it is the duty of the county clerk to examine
8181 12 monthly the records deposited in his or her office pursuant to
8282 13 the Vital Records Act that relate to deaths in the county, to
8383 14 cancel the registration of any person who has died during the
8484 15 preceding month and cause the name of each such deceased
8585 16 person to be erased from the register of the precinct in which
8686 17 the deceased person was registered.
