11	11	1 AN ACT concerning education.
12	12	2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
13	13	3 represented in the General Assembly:
14	14	4 Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Sudden
15	15	5 Cardiac Death Prevention Screening Act.
16	16	6 Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act:
17	17	7 "Sport" means any activity organized by the school where
18	18	8 student athletes compete against one another or against other
19	19	9 schools for enjoyment and entertainment.
20	20	10 "Student athlete" means a student who is in any type of
21	21	11 school, including, but not limited to, middle school, high
22	22	12 school, or postsecondary education, that participates in a
23	23	13 sport.
24	24	14 Section 10. Screening for sudden cardiac death.
25	25	15 (a) A student athlete over the age of 12 must undergo
26	26	16 sudden cardiac death screening before the student athlete may
27	27	17 participate in sports.
28	28	18 (b) A student athlete must undergo sudden cardiac death
29	29	19 screening once in middle school or high school and once before
30	30	20 postsecondary-education-level sports.
