1111 1 AN ACT concerning education.
1212 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
1313 3 represented in the General Assembly:
1414 4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
1515 5 2-3.196 as follows:
1616 6 (105 ILCS 5/2-3.196 new)
1717 7 Sec. 2-3.196. Computer science microcredentials.
1818 8 (a) The State Board of Education shall establish a
1919 9 microcredential for teachers to receive training in
2020 10 introductory and intermediate computer science. The
2121 11 microcredential shall cover the best practices for teaching
2222 12 computer science to students, focusing on content mastery and
2323 13 teaching strategies. The State Board of Education shall make
2424 14 the microcredential a primary endorsement area.
2525 15 (b) The State Board of Education shall also establish a
2626 16 microcredential for teachers to receive training for Advanced
2727 17 Placement classes in computer science after completing the
2828 18 microcredential established in subsection (a). The State Board
2929 19 of Education shall make the microcredential a primary
