11	11	1 AN ACT concerning education.
12	12	2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
13	13	3 represented in the General Assembly:
14	14	4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
15	15	5 2-3.196 as follows:
16	16	6 (105 ILCS 5/2-3.196 new)
17	17	7 Sec. 2-3.196. Computer science microcredentials.
18	18	8 (a) The State Board of Education shall establish a
19	19	9 microcredential for teachers to receive training in
20	20	10 introductory and intermediate computer science. The
21	21	11 microcredential shall cover the best practices for teaching
22	22	12 computer science to students, focusing on content mastery and
23	23	13 teaching strategies. The State Board of Education shall make
24	24	14 the microcredential a primary endorsement area.
25	25	15 (b) The State Board of Education shall also establish a
26	26	16 microcredential for teachers to receive training for Advanced
27	27	17 Placement classes in computer science after completing the
28	28	18 microcredential established in subsection (a). The State Board
29	29	19 of Education shall make the microcredential a primary
30	30	20 endorsement area.
