1 AN ACT concerning health.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The University of Illinois Hospital Act is
5 amended by adding Section 8h as follows:
6 (110 ILCS 330/8h new)
7 Sec. 8h. Emergency room treatment; copayment.
8 Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, the
9 University of Illinois Hospital shall not require a patient in
10 a University of Illinois Hospital emergency room to pay a
11 copayment before receiving treatment for the patient's medical
12 emergency.
13 Section 10. The Hospital Licensing Act is amended by
14 adding Section 6.34 as follows:
15 (210 ILCS 85/6.34 new)
16 Sec. 6.34. Emergency room treatment; copayment.
17 Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, a
18 hospital licensed under this Act shall not require a patient
19 in the hospital's emergency room to pay a copayment before
20 receiving treatment for the patient's medical emergency.
