1111 1 AN ACT concerning education.
1212 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
1313 3 represented in the General Assembly:
1414 4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
1515 5 34-4 as follows:
1616 6 (105 ILCS 5/34-4) (from Ch. 122, par. 34-4)
1717 7 Sec. 34-4. Eligibility. To be eligible for election or
1818 8 appointment to the board, a person shall be a citizen of the
1919 9 United States, shall be a registered voter as provided in the
2020 10 Election Code, shall have been a resident of the city and, if
2121 11 applicable, the electoral district, for at least one year
2222 12 immediately preceding his or her election or appointment, and
2323 13 shall not be a child sex offender as defined in Section 11-9.3
2424 14 of the Criminal Code of 2012. A person is ineligible for
2525 15 election or appointment to the board if that person is an
2626 16 employee of the school district. All persons eligible for
2727 17 election to the board shall be nominated by a petition signed
2828 18 by no less than 250 voters residing within the electoral
2929 19 district on a petition in order to be placed on the ballot,
3030 20 except that persons eligible for election to the board at
3131 21 large shall be nominated by a petition signed by no less than
3232 22 2,500 voters residing within the city. Permanent removal from
3333 23 the city by any member of the board during his term of office

6868 1 constitutes a resignation therefrom and creates a vacancy in
6969 2 the board. Board members may be compensated for their service,
7070 3 and shall serve without any compensation; however, board
7171 4 members shall be reimbursed for expenses incurred while in the
7272 5 performance of their duties upon submission of proper receipts
7373 6 or upon submission of a signed voucher in the case of an
7474 7 expense allowance evidencing the amount of such reimbursement
7575 8 or allowance to the president of the board for verification
7676 9 and approval. Board members shall not hold other public office
7777 10 under the Federal, State or any local government other than
7878 11 that of Director of the Regional Transportation Authority,
7979 12 member of the economic development commission of a city having
8080 13 a population exceeding 500,000, notary public or member of the
8181 14 National Guard, and by accepting any such office while members
8282 15 of the board, or by not resigning any such office held at the
8383 16 time of being elected or appointed to the board within 30 days
8484 17 after such election or appointment, shall be deemed to have
8585 18 vacated their membership in the board.
