11 103RD GENERAL ASSEMBLY State of Illinois 2023 and 2024 HB4294 Introduced , by Rep. Janet Yang Rohr SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED: 225 ILCS 85/50 new Amends the Pharmacy Practice Act. Provides that, in accordance with a standing order by a physician licensed to practice medicine in all its branches or a standing order by the Department of Public Health, a pharmacist may provide a school district, public school, charter school, or nonpublic school with undesignated epinephrine injectors, asthma medication, glucagon, and opioid antagonists for the use by the school district, public school, charter school, or nonpublic school under the School Code. Provides that the Department of Public Health shall issue a standing order to provide a school district, public school, charter school, or nonpublic school with undesignated epinephrine injectors, asthma medication, glucagon, and opioid antagonists for use under the School Code. Provides that the standing order must be consistent with the current version of the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, guidelines of the United States Preventive Services Task Force, or generally recognized evidence-based clinical guidelines. 1111 1 AN ACT concerning regulation.
1212 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
1313 3 represented in the General Assembly:
1414 4 Section 5. The Pharmacy Practice Act is amended by adding
1515 5 Section 50 as follows:
1616 6 (225 ILCS 85/50 new)
1717 7 Sec. 50. Standing order and dispensation of medication to
1818 8 schools.
1919 9 (a) In accordance with a standing order by a physician
2020 10 licensed to practice medicine in all its branches or a
2121 11 standing order by the Department of Public Health, a
2222 12 pharmacist may provide a school district, public school,
2323 13 charter school, or nonpublic school with undesignated
2424 14 epinephrine injectors, asthma medication, glucagon, and opioid
2525 15 antagonists for use by the school district, public school,
2626 16 charter school, or nonpublic school under Section 22-30 of the
2727 17 School Code. A pharmacist and pharmacy must maintain records
2828 18 of medications issued under this Section pursuant to a
2929 19 standing order.
3030 20 (b) The Department of Public Health shall issue a standing
3131 21 order to provide a school district, public school, charter
3232 22 school, or nonpublic school with undesignated epinephrine
