4	4	2 WHEREAS, Respiratory Syncytial Virus disease (RSV) is a
5	5	3 highly transmissible, seasonal virus that can have severe and
6	6	4 unpredictable outcomes for infants, including hospitalization;
7	7	5 and
8	8	6 WHEREAS, Nearly all children will be infected with RSV by
9	9	7 age two, and most infants requiring hospitalization were
10	10	8 previously healthy and born at term; and
11	11	9 WHEREAS, RSV is the leading cause of hospitalization among
12	12	10 infants in the U.S.; and
13	13	11 WHEREAS, RSV is the most common cause of bronchiolitis
14	14	12 (inflammation of the small airways in the lung) and pneumonia
15	15	13 (infection of the lungs) in children younger than one year of
16	16	14 age in the U.S.; and
17	17	15 WHEREAS, The current RSV season has resulted in
18	18	16 significant morbidity and increased mortality; and
19	19	17 WHEREAS, In the U.S., RSV infections typically occur
20	20	18 during late fall, winter, and early spring, which means urgent
21	21	19 preparation is needed; and

30	30	1 WHEREAS, Monoclonal antibodies show promise in
31	31	2 preventative protection against RSV; and
32	32	3 WHEREAS, RSV disproportionally affects infants with
33	33	4 Medicaid coverage, Native Americans, and Alaskan Natives; and
34	34	5 WHEREAS, The Vaccines For Children (VFC) program is a
35	35	6 federally-funded program that provides vaccines at no cost to
36	36	7 children who might not otherwise be vaccinated because of
37	37	8 inability to pay; and
38	38	9 WHEREAS, VFC coverage is critical to ensure equity and
39	39	10 access for all infants in order to have the greatest impact on
40	40	11 disease burden; therefore, be it
41	41	12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
42	42	13 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
43	43	14 we urge the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to
44	44	15 include new RSV immunization technologies (including vaccines
45	45	16 and monoclonal antibodies), within the federal VFC program if
46	46	17 the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the
47	47	18 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issues
48	48	19 administrative recommendations that are subsequently approved
49	49	20 by the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and
50	50	21 Prevention; and be it further
