4	4	2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
5	5	3 Representatives wish to recognize Sonali Patil, Ph.D., on her
6	6	4 service to the Hawthorn District 73 Board of Education; and
7	7	5 WHEREAS, Dr. Patil has resided in Vernon Hills with her
8	8	6 husband and two children for 22 years; she has a bachelor's
9	9	7 degree in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of
10	10	8 Bombay in India and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the
11	11	9 University of Illinois at Chicago; and
12	12	10 WHEREAS, Dr. Patil served on the Hawthorn District 73
13	13	11 Board of Education from April 2015 to April 2023; and
14	14	12 WHEREAS, Dr. Patil previously served as board president
15	15	13 from April 2017 to April 2019; and
16	16	14 WHEREAS, During her tenure as president, Dr. Patil led the
17	17	15 Board of Education through placing the second referendum on
18	18	16 the ballot and educating the community about the EFMP,
19	19	17 researched options for interim superintendents and guided the
20	20	18 board through the subsequent interview and hiring process,
21	21	19 considered options and oversaw selection of a search firm
22	22	20 while seeking the next superintendent, steered the board
23	23	21 through the process of filling two vacancies on the board, and

32	32	1 assisted the board through the superintendent interview and
33	33	2 hiring process; she additionally participated in decisions
34	34	3 regarding the design of the kindergarten center, now known as
35	35	4 Hawthorn School for Young Learners, and approved bids for the
36	36	5 project, in negotiating an IGA with the Village of Vernon
37	37	6 Hills and Park District to construct the Hawthorn School for
38	38	7 Young Learners at the Sullivan Center, and in collective
39	39	8 bargaining on behalf of the Board; and
40	40	9 WHEREAS, During her time as a board member, Dr. Patil
41	41	10 advocated for a more advantageous position for Hawthorn
42	42	11 District 73 in current and future TIF districts, remained
43	43	12 focused on moving the district towards its goals throughout
44	44	13 the COVID-19 pandemic, asked important questions and
45	45	14 contributed thoughtfully to discussions, and approved budgets,
46	46	15 tax levies, new or better curricular materials, a new
47	47	16 strategic plan, and the reissuing bonds to reduce the
48	48	17 financial impact of the referendum; and
49	49	18 WHEREAS, Dr. Patil was also an integral member of the Site &
50	50	19 Facilities Committee from 2020 to April 2023; and
51	51	20 WHEREAS, Dr. Patil has served Hawthorn District 73 as a
52	52	21 constant, passionate advocate for students and taxpayers;

64	64	1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
65	65	2 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
66	66	3 we recognize Sonali Patil, Ph.D., on her service to the
67	67	4 Hawthorn District 73 Board of Education, thank her for her
68	68	5 commitment to the students and the community, and wish her
69	69	6 best in her future endeavors; and be it further
70	70	7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
71	71	8 presented to Dr. Patil as an expression of our esteem and
72	72	9 respect.
