44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
55 3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Maggie
66 4 Mozell Singleton; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Maggie Singleton was born to Willie Jones and
88 6 Theodore McFadden in Carthage, Mississippi on May 11, 1932;
99 7 she and her siblings tragically lost their mother and were
1010 8 raised by their maternal grandmother, Levonia Banks; she
1111 9 attended Pilgrim Rest Elementary School and graduated from
1212 10 Leake County Agricultural High School; she married Andrew D.
1313 11 "A.D." Singleton Sr. in October of 1950, and they eventually
1414 12 settled in Chicago; and
1515 13 WHEREAS, Maggie Singleton, while she never worked outside
1616 14 of her home, was gifted at managing household finances and
1717 15 budgeting; her skills enabled the family to move from
1818 16 Chicago's Englewood neighborhood to the middle-class
1919 17 neighborhood of Chatham in 1963; while there, they supported
2020 18 numerous extended family members who also migrated from
2121 19 Mississippi to Chicago; and
2222 20 WHEREAS, Maggie Singleton's family meant the world to her;
2323 21 she was the consummate homemaker and an excellent cook; she
2424 22 instilled a strong work ethic in all of her children and

3333 1 strongly believed in education; all of her children graduated
3434 2 from high school and several went on to complete college, with
3535 3 some earning advanced degrees as well; her faith was important
3636 4 to her, and she mandated her children attend church on
3737 5 Sundays; her oldest son, Andrew, became the founder and pastor
3838 6 of Victory Apostolic Church, where she and her husband became
3939 7 members at its inception in 1996; and
4040 8 WHEREAS, Maggie Singleton was the "First Mother" of
4141 9 Victory Apostolic Church; she was dearly loved by the
4242 10 congregation and faithfully participated in the Seniors Small
4343 11 Group Ministry, where she made many friends; and
4444 12 WHEREAS, Maggie Singleton was known for her amazing sense
4545 13 of humor, her infectious laughter, and for being very
4646 14 personable; she loved talking on the phone, especially to her
4747 15 family and close friends, and often began making her daily
4848 16 phone calls before 5:00 a.m.; and
4949 17 WHEREAS, Maggie Singleton was preceded in death by her
5050 18 husband of 63 years, Andrew; her twin sons, Keith and Kevin;
5151 19 her brothers, Robert "R.D." and Albert; and her sister, Wilma
5252 20 "Faye" Hillman; and
5353 21 WHEREAS, Maggie Singleton is survived by her children,
5454 22 Andrew D. (Brenda) Singleton Jr., Linda (Larry) Bell, Earnest

6666 2 Singleton; her grandchildren, Takara (Bryant) Warren, Karena
6767 3 (Billy) Bundy, Andrew D. (Dominique) Singleton III, Lauren
6868 4 (Jeremy) Toles, and Brian Bell; eight great-grandchildren; her
6969 5 brother, Earnest McFadden; and numerous nephews, nieces,
7070 6 extended relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
7171 7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7272 8 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7373 9 we mourn the passing of Maggie Mozell Singleton and extend our
7474 10 sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
7575 11 and loved her; and be it further
7676 12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7777 13 presented to the family of Maggie Singleton as an expression
7878 14 of our deepest sympathy.
