44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
55 3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mary
66 4 Louise Hawthorne Jones; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Mary Jones was born to L.C. Hawthorne and Nannie
88 6 Lee Hawthorne on November 16, 1933; she was the oldest
99 7 daughter of six children; she married John Albert Jones Jr. at
1010 8 the age of 16, and they had eight children; and
1111 9 WHEREAS, Mary Jones played the piano for her father's
1212 10 church at a young age; she continued playing the piano and
1313 11 became the church's first musician when her husband began to
1414 12 serve as pastor, and she served faithfully in ministry with
1515 13 her husband; during her tenure, she aided the church through
1616 14 cooking in the kitchen, planting a church garden, feeding
1717 15 members in her home, and providing housing for many; and
1818 16 WHEREAS, Mary Jones was a creative, industrious, and
1919 17 highly intellectual woman of many talents and skills,
2020 18 including sewing, crafting, gardening, and cooking; she was
2121 19 especially known for her biscuits, salmon croquettes, banana
2222 20 pudding, dressing, coconut cake, and peach cobbler; and
2323 21 WHEREAS, Mary Jones was known as a wise woman who was

3232 1 dedicated, loyal, and loving to her family while exemplifying
3333 2 a life of grace, class, and elegance; she will be remembered
3434 3 for her sweet smile, Sunday dinners, and candid humor, and she
3535 4 will forever be affectionately known as "Mother Rehoboth"; and
3636 5 WHEREAS, Mary Jones was preceded in death by her children,
3737 6 Bruce, John III, and Martha, and her siblings, Willie L.
3838 7 Hawthorne, James L. Hawthorne, and Harold Hawthorne; and
3939 8 WHEREAS, Mary Jones is survived by her children, Mirriam
4040 9 (Joseph) Knox, Arthur Jones, Stanley (the late Robin) Jones,
4141 10 Eva (Shannon) Curington, and Osmond (Leslie) Jones; 13
4242 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two
4343 12 great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Pauline Robinson and
4444 13 Eddie Mae Hawthorne; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
4545 14 friends, and her Rehoboth family; therefore, be it
4646 15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4747 16 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4848 17 we mourn the passing of Mary Louise Hawthorne Jones and extend
4949 18 our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who
5050 19 knew and loved her; and be it further
5151 20 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5252 21 presented to the family of Mary Jones as an expression of our
5353 22 deepest sympathy.
