7 | 7 | | 5 WHEREAS, Mary Jones was born to L.C. Hawthorne and Nannie |

8 | 8 | | 6 Lee Hawthorne on November 16, 1933; she was the oldest |

9 | 9 | | 7 daughter of six children; she married John Albert Jones Jr. at |
---|
10 | 10 | | 8 the age of 16, and they had eight children; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | 9 WHEREAS, Mary Jones played the piano for her father's |
---|
12 | 12 | | 10 church at a young age; she continued playing the piano and |
---|
13 | 13 | | 11 became the church's first musician when her husband began to |
---|
14 | 14 | | 12 serve as pastor, and she served faithfully in ministry with |
---|
15 | 15 | | 13 her husband; during her tenure, she aided the church through |
---|
16 | 16 | | 14 cooking in the kitchen, planting a church garden, feeding |
---|
17 | 17 | | 15 members in her home, and providing housing for many; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | 16 WHEREAS, Mary Jones was a creative, industrious, and |
---|
19 | 19 | | 17 highly intellectual woman of many talents and skills, |
---|
20 | 20 | | 18 including sewing, crafting, gardening, and cooking; she was |
---|
21 | 21 | | 19 especially known for her biscuits, salmon croquettes, banana |
---|
22 | 22 | | 20 pudding, dressing, coconut cake, and peach cobbler; and |

23 | 23 | | 21 WHEREAS, Mary Jones was known as a wise woman who was |
