1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Paul Schaefer on the
4 occasion of his induction into the Edwardsville High School
5 Athletic Hall of Fame; and
6 WHEREAS, Paul Schaefer was born and raised in
7 Edwardsville; he served as the starting center for the
8 Edwardsville High School Tigers basketball team for three
9 seasons, and, before the introduction of the three-point line,
10 he amassed a total of 1,482 points, a record that still stands
11 as 2nd all-time in program history; and
12 WHEREAS, Paul Schaefer played a significant role in
13 leading the Tigers to a regional championship in each of his
14 four seasons with the team, and in 1982, he earned all-state
15 honors for his prowess on the court; and
16 WHEREAS, Paul Schaefer earned a scholarship to the
17 University of Evansville, where he thrived with his
18 consistency in the paint, averaging over six points and four
19 rebounds per game and starting 72 contests for the Purple
20 Aces; and
21 WHEREAS, Paul Schaefer's son, Mark, carried on the family

1 tradition as a starter on the 2006 team that posted a 30 and 1
2 record and made it to the state quarterfinals, a new feat for
3 the Schaefer family; and
4 WHEREAS, Paul Schaefer, a steward of downstate Illinois,
5 has made his home in Edwardsville for over 35 years, with over
6 3 decades of service to the members of Local 881 UFCW, and has
7 an ongoing positive impact on working families in his
8 community; therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11 we congratulate Paul Schaefer on his induction into the
12 Edwardsville High School Athletic Hall of Fame; and be it
