4	4	2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
5	5	3 Representatives wish to congratulate the members of the 1974
6	6	4 Western Illinois University (WIU) baseball team on the 50th
7	7	5 anniversary of their incredible season; and
8	8	6 WHEREAS, WIU has had an intercollegiate baseball team
9	9	7 since the 1903-1904 season; and
10	10	8 WHEREAS, In 1974, the WIU baseball team broke the school
11	11	9 record for most victories in a single season, finishing with
12	12	10 31 wins and 12 losses, a record that went unbroken for 32
13	13	11 years; and
14	14	12 WHEREAS, As a result of its unprecedented season, the 1974
15	15	13 WIU baseball team received a NCAA at-large bid to play in the
16	16	14 1974 NCAA Mid-East Regional Tournament and advanced to the
17	17	15 championship game, only one game away from the Division II
18	18	16 College World Series; and
19	19	17 WHEREAS, Over the course of the season, the 1974 WIU
20	20	18 baseball team set or broke 30 team or individual records, many
21	21	19 of which remain unbeaten to this day; and
22	22	20 WHEREAS, The 1974 WIU baseball team was led by Dick

31	31	1 Pawlow, who oversaw WIU baseball from 1970 to 1998, becoming
32	32	2 the school's longest-serving head coach; the team was also led
33	33	3 by co-captains Fred Dintelman and Gerry Grybash; and
34	34	4 WHEREAS, The 1974 WIU baseball team, one of the greatest
35	35	5 teams in WIU Athletics history, was inducted into the WIU
36	36	6 Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019; and
37	37	7 WHEREAS, The 1974 WIU baseball team possesses several
38	38	8 inductees to the WIU Athletics Hall of Fame, including pitcher
39	39	9 and team MVP Ed Gvazdinskas in 1994, second baseman Dennis
40	40	10 Mantick in 2003, and head coach Dick Pawlow in 2004; and
41	41	11 WHEREAS, The members of the 1974 WIU baseball team will be
42	42	12 celebrating the 50th anniversary of their successful season
43	43	13 during the WIU Baseball Alumni Weekend in Macomb from May 3 to
44	44	14 May 5, 2024; therefore, be it
45	45	15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
46	46	16 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
47	47	17 we congratulate the members of the 1974 Western Illinois
48	48	18 University (WIU) baseball team on the 50th anniversary of
49	49	19 their incredible season; and be it further
50	50	20 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be given
51	51	21 to the players and coaches of the 1974 WIU baseball team as an
