1212 1 AN ACT concerning correctional facilities.
1313 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
1414 3 represented in the General Assembly:
1515 4 Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
1616 5 Censorship in Correctional Facilities Act.
1717 6 Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act:
1818 7 "Law enforcement agency" means an agency of the State or
1919 8 of a unit of local government charged with enforcement of
2020 9 State, county, or municipal laws or with managing custody of
2121 10 detained persons in the State.
2222 11 "Law enforcement official" means any individual with the
2323 12 power to arrest or detain individuals, including law
2424 13 enforcement officers, corrections officers, and others
2525 14 employed or designated by a law enforcement agency. "Law
2626 15 enforcement official" includes a probation officer.
2727 16 Section 10. Censorship or book bans prohibited. A law
2828 17 enforcement agency or law enforcement official shall not
2929 18 refuse to approve the use or prohibit the use of books,
3030 19 including, but not limited to, memoirs, autobiographies, and
3131 20 biographies, based upon the depiction in those materials of
3232 21 matters related to the protected characteristics or categories
3333 22 identified in subsection (Q) of Section 1-103 of the Illinois
