1  AN ACT concerning regulation.
2  Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3  represented in the General Assembly:
4  Section 5. The Illinois Speech-Language Pathology and
5  Audiology Practice Act is amended by changing Section 8.5 as
6  follows:
7  (225 ILCS 110/8.5)
8  (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2028)
9  Sec. 8.5. Qualifications for licenses as a speech-language
10  pathology assistant. A person is qualified to be licensed as a
11  speech-language pathology assistant if that person has applied
12  in writing or electronically on forms prescribed by the
13  Department, has paid the required fees, and meets both of the
14  following criteria:
15  (1) Is of good moral character. In determining moral
16  character, the Department may take into consideration any
17  felony conviction or plea of guilty or nolo contendere of
18  the applicant, but such a conviction or plea shall not
19  operate automatically as a complete bar to licensure.
20  (2) Has received either (i) an associate degree from a
21  speech-language pathology assistant program that has been
22  approved by the Department and that meets the minimum
23  requirements set forth in Section 8.6; , (ii) a bachelor's

1  degree and has completed course work from an accredited
2  college or university that meets the minimum requirements
3  set forth in Section 8.6; , or (iii) a bachelor's degree in
4  speech-language pathology or communication sciences and
5  disorders from a regionally or nationally accredited
6  institution approved by the Department that meets the
7  minimum requirements set forth in paragraph (2) of
8  subsection (a) in Section 8.6, and evidence of completion
9  of at least 100 hours of documented field work supervised
10  by a nationally certified and licensed speech-language
11  pathologist that is comparable to field work that
12  completed in a speech-language pathology assistant program
13  in this State, and completion of requirements for national
14  certification as a speech-language pathology assistant.
