111111 20 not have an opportunity to complete the minimum college
112112 21 preparatory curriculum in high school, and 2)
113113 22 educationally disadvantaged applicants who are admitted to
114114 23 the formal organized special assistance programs that are
115115 24 tailored to the needs of such students, providing that in
116116 25 either case, the institution incorporates in the
117117 26 applicant's baccalaureate curriculum courses or other

139139 12 (d) A student who has graduated from high school and has
140140 13 scored within the University's accepted range on the ACT or
141141 14 SAT shall not be required to take a high school equivalency
142142 15 test as a prerequisite to admission.
143143 16 (e) The Board of Trustees shall establish an admissions
144144 17 process in which honorably discharged veterans are permitted
145145 18 to submit an application for admission to the University as a
146146 19 freshman student enrolling in the spring semester if the
147147 20 veteran was on active duty during the fall semester. The
148148 21 University may request that the Department of Veterans'
149149 22 Affairs confirm the status of an applicant as an honorably
150150 23 discharged veteran who was on active duty during the fall
151151 24 semester.
152152 25 (f) For purposes of this subsection (f), "rural student"

10121012 1 under Article 27A of the School Code, that the applicant

10211021 10 University may also admit (i) applicants who did not have
10221022 11 an opportunity to complete the minimum college preparatory
10231023 12 curriculum in high school, and (ii) educationally
10241024 13 disadvantaged applicants who are admitted to the formal
10251025 14 organized special assistance programs that are tailored to
10261026 15 the needs of such students, providing that in either case,
10271027 16 the institution incorporates in the applicant's
10281028 17 baccalaureate curriculum courses or other academic
10291029 18 activities that compensate for course deficiencies; and
10301030 19 (3) except that up to 3 of 15 units of coursework
10311031 20 required by paragraph (1) of this subsection may be
10321032 21 distributed by deducting no more than one unit each from
10331033 22 the categories of social studies, mathematics, sciences
10341034 23 and electives and completing those 3 units in any of the 5
10351035 24 categories of coursework described in paragraph (1).
10361036 25 (b) When allocating funds, local boards of education shall

10491049 2 (c) A student who has graduated from high school and has
10501050 3 scored within the University's accepted range on the ACT or
10511051 4 SAT shall not be required to take a high school equivalency
10521052 5 test as a prerequisite to admission.
10531053 6 (d) The Board shall establish an admissions process in
10541054 7 which honorably discharged veterans are permitted to submit an
10551055 8 application for admission to the University as a freshman
10561056 9 student enrolling in the spring semester if the veteran was on
10571057 10 active duty during the fall semester. The University may
10581058 11 request that the Department of Veterans' Affairs confirm the
10591059 12 status of an applicant as an honorably discharged veteran who
10601060 13 was on active duty during the fall semester.
10611061 14 (e) For purposes of this subsection (e), "rural student"
10621062 15 means a student residing in this State whose primary residence
10631063 16 is not in Cook County, DuPage County, Kane County, Lake
10641064 17 County, McHenry County, or Will County.
10651065 18 If the University has a law school, medical school, or
10661066 19 nursing program, the Board shall establish an admissions
10671067 20 process in which 25% of the students admitted to the law
10681068 21 school, medical school, or nursing program shall be rural
10691069 22 students. The Board shall require each of these rural students
10701070 23 to agree to return to the county where the student's primary
10711071 24 residence was located for a period of 3 years after graduation
10721072 25 from the law school, medical school, or nursing program.
