4	4	2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
5	5	3 to learn of the death of Larry Dean Ehmen of Quincy, who passed
6	6	4 away on January 4, 2023; and
7	7	5 WHEREAS, Larry Ehmen was born to E. Dale and Meveline
8	8	6 Heinecke Ehmen in Quincy on January 16, 1940; he was raised in
9	9	7 the area near Golden and graduated from Central High School in
10	10	8 1957; he received a Bachelor of Science in Physics and
11	11	9 Mathematics from Western Illinois University in Macomb and a
12	12	10 Master of Science in Natural Science from Rensselaer
13	13	11 Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York; he married Reva Ann
14	14	12 Post at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bowen on Thanksgiving Day,
15	15	13 November 22, 1962; and
16	16	14 WHEREAS, Larry Ehmen taught high school physics at Central
17	17	15 High School from 1961 to 1963 and at Quincy High School from
18	18	16 1963 to 1978; during his time at Quincy High School, he was one
19	19	17 of the founders of the Quincy Conference; he was a co-owner of
20	20	18 Fisher Business Equipment Company for 20 years and was also
21	21	19 the co-owner and manager of Twin Mill Investments; and
22	22	20 WHEREAS, Larry Ehmen was elected Adams County Recorder
23	23	21 with the intent to eliminate the position; he served from 2000
24	24	22 until 2004 when the position was eliminated; he was a true

33	33	1 statesman and gentleman when seeking resolution to complex
34	34	2 issues; and
35	35	3 WHEREAS, During his life, Larry Ehmen was active in
36	36	4 community affairs, including the Quincy Jaycees, the Quincy
37	37	5 Exchange Club, the Adams County Republican Party in which he
38	38	6 served as chairman for eight years, the United Way of Adams
39	39	7 County, Transitions of Western Illinois, Mental Health
40	40	8 Authority & Recovery Resources, the Adams County Board where
41	41	9 he served as chairman for two years, Ellington Township where
42	42	10 he served as supervisor for 43 years, and the Quincy Community
43	43	11 Theater where he appeared in productions; he served on the
44	44	12 Walter Hammond Day Care board for 25 years and was president of
45	45	13 the board for 17 years; he served on the Western Illinois
46	46	14 University Foundation Board for 25 years, including two years
47	47	15 as president; he helped create the Great River Economic
48	48	16 Development Foundation and served as the first president; he
49	49	17 and his wife were co-presidents of the Illinois State
50	50	18 University Parents Association during the time their children
51	51	19 attended the University; he and his wife were members of
52	52	20 Spring Lake Country Club for 30 years, and he served on the
53	53	21 board; he was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church since
54	54	22 1962 where he served on several committees, held offices, and
55	55	23 dedicated his last five years of volunteer service solely to
56	56	24 the church; and

67	67	1 WHEREAS, Larry Ehmen was passionate about cars, but he was
68	68	2 also a private pilot, rode motorcycles, and had pleasure boats
69	69	3 on the river; he enjoyed working in his yard and instilling
70	70	4 that passion in his children, whether they liked it or not; and
71	71	5 WHEREAS, Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his
72	72	6 brother, Jim Ehmen; his sister-in-law, Charity Ehmen; and his
73	73	7 brother-in-law, David White; and
74	74	8 WHEREAS, Larry Ehmen is survived by his wife of 60 years,
75	75	9 Reva; his four children, Shelly (Doug) Quinn, Brad (Karol)
76	76	10 Ehmen, Heidi (fianc Parker Armbruster) Schlipman, and Ryan
77	77	11 (Lynn) Ehmen; his 13 grandchildren, Hailey and Hayden Quinn,
78	78	12 Lauren (fianc Sam Triplett) Mueller, Maddi, Ella, and Anna
79	79	13 Ehmen, Alex, Avery, and Alayna Schlipman, Peri Jane (fianc
80	80	14 Brendan Duffy) Ehmen, and Bennett, Rowan, and Josie Ehmen; his
81	81	15 sister, Pat White; and several nieces and nephews; therefore,
82	82	16 be it
83	83	17 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
84	84	18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
85	85	19 Larry Dean Ehmen and extend our sincere condolences to his
86	86	20 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
