4	4	2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
5	5	3 to learn of the death of Tommy "Tom" Thompson of Springfield,
6	6	4 who passed away on April 19, 2023; and
7	7	5 WHEREAS, Tom Thompson was born in Lincoln on August 24,
8	8	6 1930, the son of Martin and Ida (Stover) Thompson; he
9	9	7 graduated from Lincoln Community High School in 1948, where he
10	10	8 played football, basketball, and track, and Lincoln College,
11	11	9 where he played basketball; he also attended Illinois State
12	12	10 University and the University of Illinois; he served in the
13	13	11 U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in New
14	14	12 Jersey; he married Elva "Elvie" Fuchs on April 28, 1956, and
15	15	13 she preceded him in death on January 3, 2019; and
16	16	14 WHEREAS, Tom Thompson worked as a loan officer with CIT,
17	17	15 Capital Chrysler Plymouth, and the original Marine Bank for
18	18	16 many years; and
19	19	17 WHEREAS, Tom Thompson was proud of his hometown and
20	20	18 enjoyed taking his friends and family on tours of it; he
21	21	19 received the key to the City of Lincoln for his 75th birthday;
22	22	20 and
23	23	21 WHEREAS, Tom Thompson was a member of Our Savior's

32	32	1 Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher for many years;
33	33	2 and
34	34	3 WHEREAS, Tom Thompson loved sports and was a lifelong fan
35	35	4 of Lincoln High School sports, particularly basketball, and
36	36	5 the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears, and the Fighting Illini;
37	37	6 as an adult, he was an avid fast pitch softball player and
38	38	7 played for the Pluth Tinners; later in life, he played slow
39	39	8 pitch softball, which he continued well into his 60s; he also
40	40	9 enjoyed watching and coaching his children's sporting events
41	41	10 and attending nearly all of his grandsons' games; and
42	42	11 WHEREAS, Tom Thompson loved traveling with his wife, Elva,
43	43	12 which including taking many overseas trips, and he visited
44	44	13 five continents in his lifetime; he also loved music,
45	45	14 particularly big band, show tunes, military songs, and
46	46	15 Mariachi music, and telling stories from his past; above all,
47	47	16 he loved his family dearly; and
48	48	17 WHEREAS, Tom Thompson was preceded in death by his wife;
49	49	18 his son, Gary Thompson; and his brother, Richard Thompson; and
50	50	19 WHEREAS, Tom Thompson is survived by his daughter, Gayle
51	51	20 (Dirk) Eilers; his son, Stu (Patti) Thompson; his grandsons,
52	52	21 Zane Thompson, Chase Thompson, and Colton (fianc, Meagan
53	53	22 Gonyon) Eilers; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be

65	65	2 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
66	66	3 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
67	67	4 Tommy "Tom" Thompson and extend our sincere condolences to his
68	68	5 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
69	69	6 further
70	70	7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
71	71	8 presented to the family of Tom Thompson as an expression of our
72	72	9 deepest sympathy.
