4	4	2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
5	5	3 to learn of the death of Reverend Monsignor David S. Lantz, who
6	6	4 passed away on September 26, 2023; and
7	7	5 WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz was born to Scott W. Lantz Jr.
8	8	6 and Wanda "Rosie" Waller Lantz in Springfield on January 25,
9	9	7 1952; he attended St. Patrick's Grade School and graduated
10	10	8 from Griffin High School; he attended Loyola University and
11	11	9 received his bachelor's degree in philosophy from Cardinal
12	12	10 Glennon College; he achieved his Master of Divinity from
13	13	11 Kenrick Seminary and his master's degree in education from
14	14	12 Saint Louis University; and
15	15	13 WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz was a retired priest of the
16	16	14 Diocese of Springfield in Illinois; he was ordained a deacon
17	17	15 in May 1977 and ordained a priest at the Cathedral of the
18	18	16 Immaculate Conception on May 27, 1978; he received the papal
19	19	17 honor of Chaplain to His Holiness, which was conferred on
20	20	18 August 23, 2002; and
21	21	19 WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz faithfully served every
22	22	20 appointment made by the Diocese of Springfield, including St.
23	23	21 Peter in Quincy, Quincy Notre Dame High School, Ss. Peter and
24	24	22 Paul in Alton, Christ the King in Springfield, Griffin High

40	40	8 WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz served the Diocese of
41	41	9 Springfield in many capacities through the Office for Lay
42	42	10 Ministry, the Office for the Diaconate, and the Office for
43	43	11 Ministry Formation; he was bestowed the honor of pastor
44	44	12 emeritus from Christ the King in Springfield in 2022 for
45	45	13 demonstrating exceptional service and leadership within the
46	46	14 church community; and
47	47	15 WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz's service to the Diocese took
48	48	16 him on many pilgrimages of faith around the world; most
49	49	17 notably, he was provided the rarest opportunity to
50	50	18 concelebrate mass with Pope John Paul II in 2001; he also
51	51	19 enjoyed traveling with his family and closest friends; he was
52	52	20 well loved by his parishioners, students, and family, creating
53	53	21 bonds that lasted a lifetime; and
54	54	22 WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz was preceded in death by his
55	55	23 parents; and

66	66	1 WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz is survived by his sister, Debby
67	67	2 Lantz; his brothers, Mike (Paula) Lantz, Tim (Kitty) Lantz,
68	68	3 Mark (Karen) Lantz, Steve (Mary Ann) Lantz, and Jeff Lantz;
69	69	4 his uncle, Fr. Gary Lantz; 11 nieces and nephews; 12
70	70	5 great-nieces and great-nephews; his friends who were like
71	71	6 family; and his brother priests; therefore, be it
72	72	7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
73	73	8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
74	74	9 Reverend Monsignor David S. Lantz and extend our sincere
75	75	10 condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
