44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
55 3 to learn of the death of Reverend Monsignor David S. Lantz, who
66 4 passed away on September 26, 2023; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz was born to Scott W. Lantz Jr.
88 6 and Wanda "Rosie" Waller Lantz in Springfield on January 25,
99 7 1952; he attended St. Patrick's Grade School and graduated
1010 8 from Griffin High School; he attended Loyola University and
1111 9 received his bachelor's degree in philosophy from Cardinal
1212 10 Glennon College; he achieved his Master of Divinity from
1313 11 Kenrick Seminary and his master's degree in education from
1414 12 Saint Louis University; and
1515 13 WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz was a retired priest of the
1616 14 Diocese of Springfield in Illinois; he was ordained a deacon
1717 15 in May 1977 and ordained a priest at the Cathedral of the
1818 16 Immaculate Conception on May 27, 1978; he received the papal
1919 17 honor of Chaplain to His Holiness, which was conferred on
2020 18 August 23, 2002; and
2121 19 WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz faithfully served every
2222 20 appointment made by the Diocese of Springfield, including St.
2323 21 Peter in Quincy, Quincy Notre Dame High School, Ss. Peter and
2424 22 Paul in Alton, Christ the King in Springfield, Griffin High

4343 11 Ministry Formation; he was bestowed the honor of pastor
4444 12 emeritus from Christ the King in Springfield in 2022 for
4545 13 demonstrating exceptional service and leadership within the
4646 14 church community; and
4747 15 WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz's service to the Diocese took
4848 16 him on many pilgrimages of faith around the world; most
4949 17 notably, he was provided the rarest opportunity to
5050 18 concelebrate mass with Pope John Paul II in 2001; he also
5151 19 enjoyed traveling with his family and closest friends; he was
5252 20 well loved by his parishioners, students, and family, creating
5353 21 bonds that lasted a lifetime; and
5454 22 WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz was preceded in death by his

6666 1 WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz is survived by his sister, Debby
6767 2 Lantz; his brothers, Mike (Paula) Lantz, Tim (Kitty) Lantz,
6868 3 Mark (Karen) Lantz, Steve (Mary Ann) Lantz, and Jeff Lantz;
6969 4 his uncle, Fr. Gary Lantz; 11 nieces and nephews; 12
7070 5 great-nieces and great-nephews; his friends who were like
7171 6 family; and his brother priests; therefore, be it
7272 7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
7373 8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7474 9 Reverend Monsignor David S. Lantz and extend our sincere
7575 10 condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
