4	4	2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
5	5	3 to learn of the death of Charles Robert "Chuck" McMullen of
6	6	4 Quincy, who passed away on February 22, 2024; and
7	7	5 WHEREAS, Chuck McMullen, the son of Hazel (Andersen)
8	8	6 McMullen, was born in Springfield on November 24, 1936; he
9	9	7 attended Lanphier High School before studying electronics at
10	10	8 DeVry Institute of Technology; he served in the Illinois
11	11	9 National Guard; he married Sherene "Shari" Louise Rueter at
12	12	10 Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ in Quincy on August
13	13	11 23, 1958; and
14	14	12 WHEREAS, Chuck McMullen worked as a television engineer at
15	15	13 WGEM, retiring in 2008 after 48 years of service; during his
16	16	14 career, he was noted for his work ethic; and
17	17	15 WHEREAS, Chuck McMullen was an active member of the Elks
18	18	16 Club and the Woodworkers Club; he was passionately involved
19	19	17 with the Honor Flight organization, carving plaques for over
20	20	18 1,200 veterans who participated in the flights, and he was
21	21	19 honored with a flight on June 16, 2022; and
22	22	20 WHEREAS, Chuck McMullen was a skilled craftsman, building
23	23	21 his family home with his own hands, and a devoted fan of the

32	32	1 St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears; he loved animals
33	33	2 and spending time with his children and grandchildren; he
34	34	3 enjoyed visiting the local library, meticulously tending his
35	35	4 vegetable garden, and grilling unrivaled cheeseburgers on a
36	36	5 handmade brick grill; he was committed to his faith; after his
37	37	6 wife's passing, he embarked on a series of adventures,
38	38	7 fulfilling a bucket list of travel destinations across the
39	39	8 United States; and
40	40	9 WHEREAS, Chuck McMullen was a man of intelligence,
41	41	10 adventure, strength, and warmth who was known for his wise
42	42	11 counsel; he will be remembered for living his life with
43	43	12 purpose, love, and service; and
44	44	13 WHEREAS, Chuck McMullen was preceded in death by his wife
45	45	14 of 66 years, Shari; his mother; and his brother-in-law,
46	46	15 William Meyer; and
47	47	16 WHEREAS, Chuck McMullen is survived by his daughters,
48	48	17 Terri (Robert) Spegal and Laraine "Lori" (Arlin) Williams; his
49	49	18 grandchildren, Kristopher Spegal and Ashton Spegal; his
50	50	19 sister, Charlotte Meyer; and a host of nieces and nephews;
51	51	20 therefore, be it
52	52	21 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
