1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3 to learn of the death of Cleveland Darnell "Cleve" Peete Jr. of
4 Champaign, who passed away on March 4, 2024; and
5 WHEREAS, Cleveland Peete was born to Cleveland and Lula
6 Mae Peete in Memphis, Tennessee on December 21, 1952; he
7 attended the Developmental Services Center in Champaign; and
8 WHEREAS, Cleveland Peete held numerous jobs throughout his
9 life, first working as a head chef at the House of Chin, a
10 Chinese restaurant; he also worked at Campus Sports Wear for
11 many years; his longest and final job was at Murphy's Pub in
12 Champaign, where he performed multiple tasks; and
13 WHEREAS, Cleveland Peete was an avid fan of the Chicago
14 Cubs; he enjoyed attending University of Illinois (U of I)
15 football games on the weekends and spending a lot of time on
16 the U of I campus, where he was known by many throughout the
17 community; he loved expressing his love of cooking through his
18 work; and
19 WHEREAS, Cleveland Peete was an iron-willed man with a lot
20 of love and integrity that he dedicated to his family,
21 friends, and community; and

1 WHEREAS, Cleveland Peete was preceded in death by his
2 parents and his siblings, Timothy Peete and Rosemary Sellers;
3 and
4 WHEREAS, Cleveland Peete is survived by his brothers,
5 Donald Peete, Issac Peete, Leonard Peete, Melvin Peete, Cliff
6 Peete, John Peete, Steven Peete, Nicholas Peete, and Jason
7 Peete; his sisters, Donella Mae Peete, Marie Peete Smith,
8 Patricia Tyler, Latrina Peete, and Ashley Peete; and a host of
9 aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12 Cleveland Darnell "Cleve" Peete Jr. and extend our sincere
13 condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
14 him; and be it further
