44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
55 3 to learn of the death of Joe Vojacek of Oak Park, who passed
66 4 away on April 24, 2022 at the age of 82; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek was born to Joseph Vojacek Jr. and
88 6 Camille Sima Vojacek in Chicago; and
99 7 WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek was a lifelong resident of Chicago,
1010 8 though he attended high school in the suburbs at Riverside
1111 9 Brookfield High School and was a part of the class of 1958; and
1212 10 WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek began his studies in English at North
1313 11 Central College in Naperville before transferring to the
1414 12 University of Chicago, where he graduated with a Bachelor of
1515 13 Arts in English; he later earned an Master of Arts in English
1616 14 Literature in 1964; and
1717 15 WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek married his wife, Marti, in 1983, and
1818 16 their household included Marti's three daughters; and
1919 17 WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek had a long career in teaching,
2020 18 spending most of his time at the Malcolm X College campus of
2121 19 the City Colleges of Chicago, where he earned tenure as a
2222 20 professor of English; he especially enjoyed teaching

3131 1 humanities courses, where he blended literature, film, music,
3232 2 graphic arts, and other cultural representations; and
3333 3 WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek enrolled in the Ph.D. program in
3434 4 English at Loyola University Chicago but withdrew from the
3535 5 program to pursue his passion for antiquing; and
3636 6 WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek and his wife traveled the Midwest in
3737 7 search of antique furniture; they valued vintage advertising,
3838 8 artifacts, ephemera, arcade machines, and all things related
3939 9 to history and the practice of stage magic; and
4040 10 WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek retired from teaching in 2000; he and
4141 11 his wife moved shortly after to Oak Park to spend more time
4242 12 with their grandchildren; and
4343 13 WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek enjoyed music, poetry, art, film,
4444 14 photography, and antiquing; and
4545 15 WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek was preceded in death by his wife,
4646 16 Marti; and
4747 17 WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek is survived by his stepdaughters,
4848 18 Deborah Morrow, Rebecca Morrow, and Elisabeth Morrow and his
4949 19 step-grandsons, Elias Weinberg and Leo Weinberg; therefore, be
