7 | 7 | | 5 WHEREAS, Fred Greenwald was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin |

8 | 8 | | 6 to Alfred and Viola Broeker Greenwald on October 17, 1928; he |
---|
9 | 9 | | 7 graduated from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin and |
---|
10 | 10 | | 8 received his graduate degree from the University of |
---|
11 | 11 | | 9 Wisconsin-Madison; he served with the U.S. Army during the |
---|
12 | 12 | | 10 Korean War; he married Rita A. Harlow on November 17, 1951; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | 11 WHEREAS, Fred Greenwald taught in the music department at |

14 | 14 | | 12 Springfield College in Illinois for 31 years; he also gave |

15 | 15 | | 13 private lessons and served as an adjunct instructor at Lincoln |

16 | 16 | | 14 Land Community College and Sangamon State University; he |

17 | 17 | | 15 retired in 1999, but he maintained contact with many of his |
---|
18 | 18 | | 16 former students throughout the years; and |

19 | 19 | | 17 WHEREAS, Fred Greenwald was a member of the Springfield |
---|
20 | 20 | | 18 Municipal Band for 44 years and the Capital Area Concert Band |
---|
21 | 21 | | 19 for 25 years, including many years as director; he was musical |
---|
22 | 22 | | 20 director of several Springfield Municipal Opera shows and |
---|
23 | 23 | | 21 played in numerous others; he loved playing and listening to |
---|
24 | 24 | | 22 all music, especially classical, big band, and jazz; and |
