4	4	2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
5	5	3 to learn of the death of Fred H. "Fritz" Greenwald of
6	6	4 Springfield, who passed away on June 11, 2024; and
7	7	5 WHEREAS, Fred Greenwald was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin
8	8	6 to Alfred and Viola Broeker Greenwald on October 17, 1928; he
9	9	7 graduated from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin and
10	10	8 received his graduate degree from the University of
11	11	9 Wisconsin-Madison; he served with the U.S. Army during the
12	12	10 Korean War; he married Rita A. Harlow on November 17, 1951; and
13	13	11 WHEREAS, Fred Greenwald taught in the music department at
14	14	12 Springfield College in Illinois for 31 years; he also gave
15	15	13 private lessons and served as an adjunct instructor at Lincoln
16	16	14 Land Community College and Sangamon State University; he
17	17	15 retired in 1999, but he maintained contact with many of his
18	18	16 former students throughout the years; and
19	19	17 WHEREAS, Fred Greenwald was a member of the Springfield
20	20	18 Municipal Band for 44 years and the Capital Area Concert Band
21	21	19 for 25 years, including many years as director; he was musical
22	22	20 director of several Springfield Municipal Opera shows and
23	23	21 played in numerous others; he loved playing and listening to
24	24	22 all music, especially classical, big band, and jazz; and

33	33	1 WHEREAS, Fred Greenwald was a member of the Cathedral of
34	34	2 the Immaculate Conception; and
35	35	3 WHEREAS, Fred Greenwald was preceded in death by his wife,
36	36	4 Rita; his parents; his daughter, Jean Reno; his sister, Eunice
37	37	5 Lochmann; his brothers, Daniel and Alfred Greenwald; and his
38	38	6 infant son, Patrick; and
39	39	7 WHEREAS, Fred Greenwald is survived by his daughters, Mary
40	40	8 (Tom) Cartwright and Margaret "Maggie" (Mark) DeTardo; his
41	41	9 sons, Mark (Terri), John (Natalie), Peter (Anne), and Dr.
42	42	10 James Greenwald; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Cartwright,
43	43	11 Catherine Cartwright, Christopher (Cara) Greenwald, Lynde
44	44	12 Greenwald, Matt Hatcher, Jon (Alexis) Embrey, Teresa
45	45	13 Greenwald, Janie Mei Greenwald, Steven (Cori) DeTardo, Laura
46	46	14 DeTardo, Katie DeTardo, Katrina (Chris) Hadnot, Nate
47	47	15 Greenwald, Jacqueline Greenwald, and Molly Greenwald; his
48	48	16 great-grandchildren, Abby, Maddie, Aubrey, Sydney, Olivia,
49	49	17 Aubrey, Harrison, Stella, Yakabo, Eli, Hannah, and Bella; his
50	50	18 son-in-law, Jeff Reno; his sister-in-law, Catherine Greenwald;
51	51	19 and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
52	52	20 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
53	53	21 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
54	54	22 Fred H. "Fritz" Greenwald and extend our sincere condolences
