44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
55 3 to learn of the death of Sheila Stevenson of Oak Park, who
66 4 passed away on February 28, 2024 at the age of 89; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson was born to Henry and Winifred
88 6 (Worley) Stevenson in Paddington in London, England on August
99 7 26, 1934; and
1010 8 WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson was evacuated from London during
1111 9 World War II and lived in Wales with a host family until after
1212 10 the war when her family settled in Sussex; and
1313 11 WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson graduated with a degree in
1414 12 history from the University of Leicester; and
1515 13 WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson was passionate about library
1616 14 science; she first came to the United States to work at the
1717 15 Baltimore Public Library, and she started working at the Oak
1818 16 Park Public Library in 1973; and
1919 17 WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson had a three-decade-long career
2020 18 at the Oak Park Public Library, where she became a great friend
2121 19 to co-workers and patrons; she was dedicated to the library's
2222 20 mission and made an indelible impression on those around her;

3232 2 WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson served as head of the Readers
3333 3 Services Department and then as the head of Collection
3434 4 Development at the Oak Park Public Library before retiring in
3535 5 2002; and
3636 6 WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson enjoyed theatre, literature, and
3737 7 opera, being a longtime Lyric Opera season ticket holder; she
3838 8 also enjoyed traveling to the Stratford Festival in Ontario
3939 9 for 40 straight years; and
4040 10 WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson was an avid appreciator of fine
4141 11 dining, and she made a famous trifle; and
4242 12 WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson was preceded in death by her
4343 13 parents and her sister, Gillian (Henry) Stevenson Smith; and
4444 14 WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson is survived by her nephews, Tim
4545 15 Smith and Christopher Smith; therefore, be it
4646 16 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
4747 17 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4848 18 Sheila Stevenson and extend our sincere condolences to her
4949 19 family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
