11	11	1 AN ACT concerning transportation.
12	12	2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
13	13	3 represented in the General Assembly:
14	14	4 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
15	15	5 changing Section 3-806.7 as follows:

17	17	7 Sec. 3-806.7. Registration fees for active duty military
18	18	8 personnel.
19	19	9 (a) The Beginning with the 2011 registration year, the
20	20	10 standard registration fee set forth in Section 3-806 of this
21	21	11 Code for passenger motor vehicles of the first division and
22	22	12 motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than
23	23	13 8,000 pounds and registered under Section 3-815 of this Code,
24	24	14 shall be waived reduced by 50% for any Illinois vehicle owner
25	25	15 who is an active duty or was on active duty as a member of the
26	26	16 Armed Forces of the United States and stationed outside of the
27	27	17 United States for a period of 90 days or longer during the
28	28	18 preceding registration year.
29	29	19 (b) Illinois residents who are members of the Armed Forces
30	30	20 of the United States and who have been stationed outside of the
31	31	21 United States for a period of 6 months or longer, and who
32	32	22 placed their registered motor vehicle in storage during the
33	33	23 time they served abroad, shall be entitled to credit for the

68	68	1 unused portion of that registration when they renew the
69	69	2 registration of that vehicle upon their return to the United
70	70	3 States. For each month or part thereof that the vehicle was in
71	71	4 storage and had current registration, the member of the armed
72	72	5 forces shall receive one month of registration without charge.
73	73	6 (c) Beginning with the 2017 registration year, the
74	74	7 standard registration fee set forth in Section 3-806 of this
75	75	8 Code for passenger motor vehicles of the first division and
76	76	9 motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than
77	77	10 8,000 pounds and registered under Section 3-815 of this Code,
78	78	11 shall be waived for the year following the return of any
79	79	12 Illinois vehicle owner who is a member of the active-duty or
80	80	13 reserve component of the United States Armed Forces who can
81	81	14 provide proof of serving in a combat mission. Nothing in this
82	82	15 subsection is applicable to the additional fees incurred by
83	83	16 specialty, personalized, or vanity license plates.
