313 1 AN ACT concerning education.
414 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
515 3 represented in the General Assembly:
616 4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
717 5 14-19 as follows:
8-6 (105 ILCS 5/14-19 new)
9-7 Sec. 14-19. Parental notice of right to be accompanied to
10-8 meeting and of the IEP facilitation process. The notice
11-9 provided to a parent or guardian prior to a meeting pursuant to
12-10 subsection (g) of Section 14-8.02 shall inform the parent or
13-11 guardian of the parent's or guardian's right to invite other
14-12 individuals to the meeting to assist the parent or guardian,
15-13 including individuals who have knowledge or special expertise
16-14 regarding the child, and advocates for the parent, guardian,
17-15 or child. The notice shall include a request that the parent or
18-16 guardian inform the school prior to the meeting if the parent
19-17 or guardian plans to bring other individuals to the meeting so
20-18 arrangements can be made to accommodate the additional
21-19 participants.
22-20 The State Board of Education shall prepare and distribute
23-21 to each school district written informational material about
24-22 the individualized education program (IEP) facilitation
25-23 process. The material may consist of a one-page document that

34-1 briefly describes the process and how to request IEP
35-2 facilitation. The informational material on IEP facilitation
36-3 shall be disseminated to parents and guardians by schools
37-4 using the same distribution methods employed to transmit other
38-5 documents and information related to an IEP meeting to a
39-6 parent or guardian.
